Shared prosperity in the university district

In October 2018, the University of Memphis Department of City and Regional Planning and its Design Collaborative (UMDC) worked together with the University Neighborhoods Development Corporation to position the organization as a local leader in equitable economic development. As a vehicle for building this knowledge, CRP and UMDC designed a six-credit hour graduate planning and design studio course aimed at generating a strategic plan to center the UNDC as a driver in framing the University District as a launchpad for shared prosperity.

The full report of the spring 2019, 6-credit hour, combined Comprehensive Planning (PLAN 7006) and UMDC (PLAN 7801) Studios can be found below. Acting as consultants to the UNDC, and the University District community, eight graduate planning students worked under the advisement of CRP Faculty and UMDC staff to define the approach, summarize the story of the district and its communities, and outline a strategy to drive the district’s development agenda toward a shared, equitable vision.
